Judith Halberstam, Professor in the Department of Literature at the University of California, San Diego is in residence at the University of Wisconsin--Madison February 9 - 13. Border Studies is sponsoring a lecture Tuesday, February 11, 3:30 to 5:30 entitled "Ceremonies of Our Present: Photography and Subcultural Lives." Open to all, in L140 Elvehejm Museum.


Professor Halberstam teaches courses in photography, cultural studies, gender studies, film theory and queer studies and the author of Skin Shows: Gothic Horror and the Technology of Monsters and Female Masculinity, and co-editor Posthuman Bodies with Ira Livingston and The Drag King Book with Del LaGrace Volcano. Halberstam just finished a book called In a Queer Time and Place: Trans gender Bodies, Subcultural Lives, to be published by NYU press in 2004 and is currently working on a new project on queer photography.
